CASA Volunteer Helps Teenager
Reunite with Dad
Jake was living in a group home when his mother died. He began acting out and
causing fights. The CASA on his case knew it would be best for him to be
reunited with his father, but Jake’s caseworkers wanted to wait until his
behavior improved.
The CASA was
persistent and eventually persuaded Jake’s caseworkers to agree to a 3 hour,
supervised visit. Realizing that Jake would benefit from more time spent with
his father, the CASA convinced his caseworkers to allow an overnight visit, then
a weekend visit.
Jake now
lives with his father full-time, and his behavior has significantly improved.
CASA Volunteer Helps Transition Children to a New Home
Alex and Emma were living at home with their parents despite incidences of
abuse. The family was under court supervision in the hopes that they could
remain intact while receiving services. Unfortunately, the abuse escalated, and
the judge ordered that the children be removed.
Within 24
hours, the children, who both had special needs, were placed 50 miles away from
home and had lost the only caseworker they had known…but the CASA volunteer did
not change.
One week
later, the CASA volunteer had located new doctors, persuaded a local business to
donate glasses for Alex, and coordinated communication between the children’s
current and previous schools. Understanding the strong attachments that the
children felt for their parents, the CASA volunteer made certain that the new
caseworker began arranging visits as soon as possible.
